A day of field research at Blackpool & The Fylde College – ‘Looking at ‘fml”

Yesterday I spent the day in ‘The Gallery’ at Blackpool & The Fylde College, where a piece of my work, ‘fml’, is currently being displayed as part of an Alumni exhibition, conducting my first session of field research.  The results of the qualitative research will be used in my MA.  I found the experience both enjoyable and enlightening, and it has fuelled an interest in this form of research.

MA Art by Research

In October 2014 I began studying for an MA Art by Research at Lancaster University. To date, I have found the course fragmentation to be problematic and feel that it has set me back rather than enabled me to move forward with my research.  During the few months of the course I have come to realise that the focus of my research is constantly being tweaked and refined but the strict deadlines of essays has made me focus on the research in it’s previous states.  This has also been problematic when attempting to convey what I am actually researching to three different tutors! I am looking forward to being able to concentrate solely on my practice-based research project and dissertation so that the feelings of fragmentation will dissolve.
